GET YOUR PRINTS ON

And we are back to cold weather again folks! Cold, gloomy and wet are a deadly combination for me.  It makes me grumpy and sad mainly because all I want to do is cuddle under the duvet.  So  to brighten my disposition somehow, I opted to wear a bold graphic colorful print from H&M and I am crossing my fingers that it works and cheer me up.  I have been itching to wear my new pointy booties but to do so in this cold weather is like suicide.  Ergo, the knee-high boots to the rescue once again!. This reliable pair of boots have braved the cold autumn winds of Chicago so I am pretty sure it is comfortable enough in spite of the short dress I am wearing today.

As I have mentioned in my previous posts before, I always try to balance loud prints with structured geometry to make it appropriate for work. In this case, the coat given by my hubby make a reappearance but with the attached collar this time.

Don't be a scaredy cat when it comes to prints for work.  Just try to keep most of your ensemble in one color family so it wouldn't be as ostentatious. Loud prints can actually bring some vibrance and vitality in the office most of the time so go on and GET YOUR PRINTS ON!

WHAT I WORE:
graphic print dress from H&M
brown coat from DRAGON LION DESIGN  COUTURE
knee high boots from ALDO
beige tote from COACH
mustard turtleneck from BABYJEANS

ICE GRAY

I had just featured this furry coat recently in this blog but here is another take on how I wear it differently.  This look is more casual; more for a Sunday stroll rather than going to the office.  I tried to keep everything in the same color family and just had some varying shades instead.  The metallic bag became the shining point of the whole muted ensemble though.

WHAT I WORE:
faux fur gray coat from WAREHOUSE UK
gray turtleneck from ZARA
printed pants from H&M
metallic grayson bag from MICHAEL KORS
knee high boots from ALDO
eyewear from MIU MIU

BOHEME

It is a casual day for me at the office; no client meetings or presentation and I embrace this kind of day with open arms.  The thing is, it is bright and sunny today; only a bit of chill as well.  So I brought my  cotton boho dress out and paired it with a warmer jacket for comfort.
This dress was a gift from my aunt and came from India. Another plus is that I don't have to wear a scarf around my neck today so I used my leather belt as a choker.

WHAT I WORE:
printed dress from HINDAP (INDIA)
motorcycle jacket from H&M
boots from ALDO
leather belt used as a choker
choker 2 from H&M
pandora bag from GIVENCHY
eyewear from MINISO

SUMMER IN WINTER

sunny day

This edgy pants, or should I say culottes, is one of my favorite closet piece.   You can say that I like it so much because I am wearing it for winter even if it screams summer.  For me, comfort is important on the outfits I wear for office primarily because I move a lot and draw as well.  It will be difficult to draw and design when you have to think about your clothes as well. I like this ensemble because it is super comfortable as well as dressy enough for sudden office or client meetings.

WHAT I WORE:
white coat from MANGOHOUSE ONLINE
maroon culottes from H&M
gray ribbed turtleneck from ZARA
boots from ALDO
pashli mini red bag from 3.1 PHILLIP LIM
eyewear from MARC JACOBS

THE SHIRT DRESS

I love multifunctional clothes.  This tunic can actually work several ways.  It can be worn with skinnies; tucked out or tucked in.  It can also be worn on its own like a dress; the way I did here.  I threw one my hub's vest in the ensemble for a grungier look.  I have worn this one autumn day so I had to wear high boots to keep me warm enough.

WHAT I WORE:
pinstripe shirt dress from H&M
black vest from the hub's closet
knee high boots from ALDO (yes I love this shoes a lot)
pandora bag from GIVENCHY
3 piece-linked silver cuff bangles from H&M

another time I wore this to the office but with a different pair of shoes
if you like the look here are some links to shops that offers the same shirt style.

That red dress and the Harry Potter Cape

Just another outfit shot before I went to work.  I call this my Harry Potter coat because it does look like a sorcerer's outerwear, right?  Kidding aside, this coat is one of my most versatile pieces and it is not expensive at all.  I like the irregular cut so much especially when it is closed which I might feature someday with another style.  As for the red pleated dress, it is actually a sleeveless dress of mine that had been with me for the longest time.  I just put a matching red turtleneck on top of it to keep me warm.  It was a cold day when this was taken.  The apricot coloured bag is a gift from a good friend of mine.

WHAT I WORE:
blue asymmetrical cut cape from an online shop here in China
red pleated dress from MANGO
red turtleneck from ZARA
obi belt from a flea market here in China
apricot and beige tote from NINE WEST
knee high boots from ALDO

And this is how it looks like when its front is closed.  It actually becomes a whole lot of different coat.

and it is very warm, I tested it in Chicago when I went out one night with minimal clothing underneath.

so till the next one!

all the love,

Majestic Oakpark

Being a Landscape Architect by profession, a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright's house is a must. So we traveled all the way to Oak Park Illinois to take a look at the renowned architect's home and early works.  Thanks to my good friend Joseph who made this trip possible.  It was about an hour long drive from Chicago but the trip was well worth it.

We were greeted by the commanding presence of a giant Ginkgo biloba tree.  The tree was beyond beautiful but the smell was actually revolting... the kind that sticks to your shoes and brings the smell inside the car.

The splendid Ginkgo tree
We had our house tour of the famous Architect's house and it was like a virtual playground  to me.  However, I still like the latter years of Wright's design more than these initial designs.

Below are some of his initial designs too near his home.

and then here is moi...busy with my camera and information digestion.  I wanted to wear my comfy culottes in spite of the cold weather here.  I just made sure I was wearing a pair of leggings and knee-high boots underneath to keep myself warm.

Neutrals at Aion Center

I remember this day vividly.  It was one afternoon after a lunch at a Chinese restaurant near Hyatt Regency where I stayed during the trip.  I had been itching to take a picture of the pocket park at Aion Centre because I thought the scale and simplicity of the design really stand out.  I have been doing a lot of office and commercial design lately so naturally I thought this site would be a good case study.

But then of course I also ended taking outfit pictures of myself.  I did blend well with the surroundings; with my structured jacket and all.  It was a relatively cold day but that did not stop me from wearing my culottes.  I just wore my knee high boots to protect me from the cold.  Yup, the girl from the tropics is not so fond of the cold weather, whether in US or here in China.

WHAT I WORE:
Plaid Coat:                GIFT FROM HUBBY
Culottes:                   H&M
Boots:                       ALDO
Bag:                          GIVENCHY PANDORA
Black turtleneck:      UNIQLO

couldn't resist posing with this wall background.

 and more wall shots

at the hotel before going out for lunch

 comfy even if it's cold

It is obvious that I really fancy this wall.
